Chip

Originally engineer slang for an integrated circuit, a small, flat piece of silicon on which are engraved thousands, and sometimes millions, of transistors and other electronic circuit elements. The term is no long consider slang.

A computer's memory (RAM) is provided by a group of chips. The computer's CPU is found on one or more chips. Additional chips contain circuitry for a computer's video display, I/O ports, and more. Chips are also found in telephones, televisions, cars, many household appliances, more and more toys, and elsewhere.
